Sinaloa’s agricultural companies join as allies against hunger and food waste hand in hand with the Food Bank of Culiacan
In the state of Sinaloa, according to CONEVAL, more than there are more than 850 thousand people are living in poverty, of which, in 2022, Banco de Alimentos de Culiacan will be able to assist with more than 80 thousand, especially in 8 municipalities in the south-central part of the state.
The Fresh Produce industry in Sinaloa is for Banco de Alimentos de Culiacan the main ally against hunger and food waste. In 2022 alone, farmers in Culiacan, Navolato, and Elota donated more than 700 tons of vegetables to our organization.
Top quality, safe and innocuous food that ended up on the tables of families living in poverty and extreme poverty.
Once the food is in the Food Bank, the main objective is to keep it safe and innocuous, this is possible thanks to our alliance and agreement with Veggies from Mexico and we can maintain the same standards of cleanliness and food safety of the food and our facilities.
Veggies From Mexico has strengthened our entire supply chain by providing us with constant training and audits. This alliance had important results with our allies in the horticultural industry, and it has had a positive impact on the health and well-being of our beneficiaries.
It is interesting to mention that the 700 tons donated in 2022 could have been much more, but the storage capacity in our organization is limited, and sometimes we cannot receive all the donations from our allies.
The main challenge for 2023 will undoubtedly be to make our organization known to all our allies in the horticultural industry in Sinaloa to avoid food waste and reduce food poverty in the state.
