Veggies From Mexico Participates in FDA’s I-OFRR Program Training

From July 9 to 12, 2024, auditors underwent training for the International Orchard Readiness Review (I-OFRR) program in Puebla, Mexico, conducted by FDA instructors.
Over 20 participants from various Mexican regions attended, representing diverse products falling within the scope of U.S. fresh produce safety standards. Notable organizations included the Plant Health Committee of Puebla, the Meritorious University of Puebla (Benemérita Universidad de Puebla), Aneberries, APEAM, and two representatives from Sinaloa: EMEX (mangoes) and Veggies from Mexico (vegetables).

The I-OFRR program aims to assess agricultural operations (diagnostic type) based on the criteria outlined in Part 112 of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). For FDA inspections evaluating facilities and covered products, the program helps farmers gauge their preparedness. If any deficiencies exist, reviewers guide farmers toward relevant resources to address them.
The training involved one day in the classroom, where the review process was explained, followed by three days in the field. During field visits, participants applied their knowledge, and each day concluded with classroom feedback sessions.

With this additional training, the Veggies from Mexico team is well-equipped to offer review services under the I-OFRR program to local farmers. Their commitment to preparedness ensures a voluntary, confidential, and cost-free support system, ultimately benefiting the entire agricultural community before FDA inspections occur.
