Grupo Chaparral Highlights Social Responsibility Efforts in Radio UPES Interview
Culiacán, Sinaloa – In a recent interview with Jesús Martín López Zavala on the radio program Señal Preventiva de Radio at the Universidad Pedagógica del Estado de Sinaloa (Radio UPES), Ms. Yolanda Rodríguez, Coordinator of Social Promotion at Grupo Chaparral, discussed the company’s primary actions in the realm of social responsibility. These initiatives aim to benefit both the company’s employees and the community.
For approximately eight years, Grupo Chaparral has collaborated with the Secretariat of Security of the State of Sinaloa through preventive programs, providing training to its employees in safety and prevention. Some of the key activities include training sessions, puppet shows, and theatrical performances for children and parents. These events focus on safety prevention topics, fostering trust with the authorities. The main topics covered include family violence prevention, children’s rights, respectful treatment, gender equality, non-discrimination, values, and bullying.
Grupo Chaparral’s social responsibility department follows an annual work program, tailoring activities to address specific needs in various areas: housing and sanitation, health, education, culture, recreation, and training. The company employs specialists such as social workers, doctors, and dentists. Additionally, teachers provided by the Basic Education Program for Boys and Girls from Migrant Farmworker Families (PRONIM) of the Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) benefit the more than 4,500 migrant workers employed by Grupo Chaparral. As a result of these actions, the company has a return rate of migrant staff of around 90%, because they feel at home in the company.
The company offers educational programs spanning kindergarten through adult education. Training activities are organized by age group and interest, in collaboration with governmental and private institutions. These efforts include partnerships with the Secretariat of Women, the Sinaloa State Security Secretariat, the Human Rights Commission, and other organizations. The company strives to provide the necessary attention to all stakeholders. For medical care, Grupo Chaparral maintains on-farm medical offices equipped for basic care and essential medications, including dental services. The company also collaborates with the ProFamilia de Jornaleros IAP mobile unit, which conducts various prevention and health care campaigns. Annual health fairs offer general consultations, screening tests for conditions like diabetes and blood pressure, vaccination services, and educational talks.
Yolanda and her team find great satisfaction in equipping employees with tools for a better quality of life through training, health services, and education. The gratitude expressed by migrant workers, along with the care and affection they receive, reinforces their commitment to working at Grupo Chaparral. Over her 20 years of experience, she has witnessed a cultural shift among the individuals who join the company. They now possess an increasing array of tools to express themselves, growing confidence in assisting others, seeking advice, and achieving higher levels of education across generations.
For Grupo Chaparral, prevention remains the cornerstone for enhancing the lives of its employees and their families. This commitment drives the implementation of various programs and activities within the company.
