Agrícola Belher has Persian Limes available all year round
Agrícola Belher, one of the companies which are part of the Veggies From Mexico Community has been growing Persian Lemon for the last 5 years, and managed to consolidate the availability of this product all year round.
Thanks to the farming practices such as tree pruning, integrated pest management such as the release of beneficial insects and preservation of the natural biological fauna (pollinators, parasitoids and natural predators of pest insects), as well as the elimination of the use of conventional pesticides, is how they have achieved to preserve trees in very good condition, with fruit production of excellent calibers. This has allowed them to position their production in the foreign market, and even being able to export to Japan.
In addition to the above, the farm is certified under the Pollution Risk Reduction Systems (Sistemas de Reducción de Riesgos Contaminación – SRRC) from Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (SENASICA), the GlobalGAP Standard and the implementation of the Ethical Trade Audit procedure by Sedex SMETA Affiliates.
The company is currently exporting about 1,000 tons per year to the US and Japanese markets, covering a volume of 300 tons in the domestic market, and increasing every year.
When it comes to the specifications required in the foreign market, the highlight goes to size, being calibers 150 and 175 the ones with the most demand. Crop management allows the predominant calibers during production to be between 150 (59-61 ml) and 200 (54-55 ml), with provides a competitive edge for the Company.
It should be noted that having continuous crop management and maintenance activities has allowed the company to constantly hire over 60 employees from local communities all year round.
