High technology in a container
We are seeing more and more innovation in agriculture every day. In this process of research and reading, we came across a company dedicated to commercializing containers that serve as high-tech production greenhouses.
Let’s talk about the concept of modular farming. Its name is Freight Farms, and although it is a North American company, it has a presence in more than 40 countries. Each container has remote monitoring and control, automated climate control, production planning, and crop tracking; it uses fans and artificial light, and all its production is done with hydroponics.
In addition to containers, the company offers software, supplies, training, and everything needed to produce. This allows them to have high yields, high quality, and high control over safety issues. It also has year-round production.
The company has successfully planted more than 500 varieties of herbs, roots, flowers, and different types of lettuce.
Can you imagine a restaurant chain having its perfect lettuce all year round?
Although we know that it is not a volume agriculture and that it could hardly come to supplant the production of open fields and greenhouses, this type of technology can complement with variety and quality what is done outside.
