Veggies From Mexico and ProFamilia de Jornaleros IAP implemented preventive actions on heat stroke
In August Grupo Chaparral and Agricola El Nazario and coordination with ProFamilia de Jornaleros IAP – AARC organized a talk for their farm workers about Heat Stroke, which is the increase in body temperature above 40° degrees for a prolonged amount of time, in which the body’s thermoregulatory mechanisms do not work correctly, and it is unable to restore its normal temperature.
The main objective of the talk was to share with them some of the symptoms, preventive measures, and what is immediate attention in case of this situation.
Some of the preventive measures mentioned were: Stay in a cool place, drink at least 2 liters of water a day, cover yourself from the sun with a cap, bandana, or hat, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
Likewise, in case of heat stroke, the following was suggested: Lay the person down in the shade and a well-ventilated area, remove or loosen clothing, place a wet towel, compress or cloths with cold water on the neck, groin, armpits, and head and call emergencies to transfer the affected person to the emergency room.
By informing workers about this risk and preventive measures, we seek to guarantee a safe and healthy work environment during agricultural activities.
Similarly, Grupo Chaparral, together with its medical and social work department, periodically visits the fields and greenhouses to supervise the rest periods and hydration in its agricultural fields, to take care of its employees, and to prevent them from suffering from heat stroke.
Fortunately, most of the agricultural companies that are members of the Veggies from Mexico community have medical offices in their facilities to attend to the primary health needs of their employees.
The heat in Sinaloa is known for its intensity, May through September generally experienced the hottest temperatures that can rise above 36 degrees Celsius (96 degrees Fahrenheit) at their highest point. During this period, the sun shines brightly, and the heat sensation can be intense.
Staying hydrated is crucial to the correct functioning of the human body. It helps maintain fluid balance, regulate body temperature, improve digestion, and promote nutrient absorption. Proper hydration is essential for cognitive and physical efficiency for the health of the skin and other organs. Don’t forget to drink enough water throughout the day to maintain your overall well-being.
