Know more about Veggies From Mexico: Social Programs – Child Nutrition

As a continuation of the Social Programs section, we will talk about Child Nutrition and some of the actions that are currently being implemented in the sector. Although this is not something new, we must highlight some activities that can help companies that are starting to work with it.
Each agricultural season, companies hire hundreds of workers to carry out different activities within their facilities, and many of these workers generally migrate with their families (parents, siblings, and children).
Most of the companies that are part of the Veggies from Mexico community have housing areas where they house their workers and families. Within these facilities, we can find areas of childcare, and these are safe spaces with trained personnel in the care and attention of children, so that their parents can attend their workplaces with peace of mind. It is worth mentioning that this service is completely free of charge.
As part of the care provided in these centers, it is important to ensure that the children are in good health and have adequate nutrition according to their age.
To begin with, some companies have spaces and health personnel for the care of the entire population, in others, there are agreements with local institutions for the care and promotion of health. Each season, a health check-up is performed for each child, taking measurements such as height, and weight, among others, to determine their nutritional status. Children with inadequate results, i.e., underweight, overweight, or malnutrition, are referred to specialists to determine the necessary actions to change their condition, including a feeding plan.
The meal plan for the children is prepared based on the different stages of the children, and the weekly menu and the portions per meal are prepared and approved by competent authorities such as the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS), State Commission for the Protection against Health Risks of Sinaloa (COEPRISS), The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), among others.
These meals are prepared by cooks who have been trained in the proper preparation and safe handling of food, inspection, storage, as well as personal hygiene and childcare, so you can be sure that the children will eat healthy and tasty food, and in this way, the children will grow big and strong.
Education also plays an important role, so they are taught that there are healthy foods and junk foods, and personal hygiene to avoid diseases, these talks are given to all children and their families.
If as a company you know or already have in practice any other activity, share it, more and more agricultural companies are joining in the implementation of social programs, remember that nothing is superfluous in the search for the benefit of their workers and families.
