Editorial: Artificial Intelligence
There are very high expectations for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in most industries. Many of us have already used GPT Chat and it is impressive to interact with this tool, ask it questions, ask it to be clearer, ask it to use a different vocabulary; and practically have a conversation with a robot that knows everything. Of course, it has its limitations when we ask it to make stock market predictions or election results, not because it can’t respond, but because of company policies.
Similarly, in recent days the Bing Image Creator has become very popular, where you make a description of an image you would like to have and in a matter of seconds you have it on your screen. For example, “make an image of a tomato dressed in a black jacket, with blue shoes, and have the image be like a Picasso painting”. I did it and was surprised. I invite you to try the tool.
Some of the most widely used applications of AI today are in e-commerce, to sell you more and better. In the use of assistants, the famous “chatbots”, to answer questions about a business, or even as personal assistants. Of course, autonomous cars, are becoming more and more of a reality. In security matters, it is being used more effectively in facial recognition. In navigation, to give you more practical and precise routes. In robotics. And of course, in the health sector, using equipment that detects diseases more accurately and faster, making diagnoses more efficient.
Remember that AI is constantly thinking and analyzing what is happening around it, so its predictions can change daily and become more accurate.
It is a reality that sooner or later AI will reach agriculture, and of course, we have already talked about Big Data making predictions on yields and pests (it is already a reality in Sinaloa). However, there are already ventures that are using satellites, robots, and software with AI to have better soil analysis, better knowledge of the effects of different microbes on plants, genetic analysis of varieties to improve photosynthesis, and more accurate weather predictions, among other tools.
If we go further, surely the tools already exist to make market predictions and consumption trends. Which vegetable should I plant this year? Which one is more likely to have a better price
Some companies you can explore on the Web, within the sector, that use AI are Abundant Robotics, Descarte Labs, and Indigo Agriculture, among others.
I do not doubt that those who innovate using this technology and apply it practically will be a step ahead in the industry.
AI is still in its early stages but advancing at an accelerated pace. It won’t be long before we are using these tools in the state of Sinaloa.
