AMHPAC presents the Regional Study on Farming and Working Conditions in the Culiacan Valley
Last February 11, the Mexican Association of Protected Horticulture performed the development of the Regional Study on Farming and Working Conditions in the Culiacan Valley, executed by Dr. Agustín Escobar Latapí.
The Dr. is an acknowledged researcher in working and immigration affairs worldwide. This time, he was able to analyze the working conditions from the fields in Sinaloa. One of the most relevant results is that growers in our state provide free housing to workers, and not only that: the housing the provide has one of the best working conditions in Mexico, making sure that workers have decent and clean housing, in addition to providing daycare facilities, medical offices, among other very unique benefits nationwide.
Another relevant fact is that farmers in our state have complied, throughout the years, with the affiliation of workers to Social Security. A proof of that, is that only in Culiacan and Navolato, it has grown by 700% in the last 20 years.
Horticultural farmers from Sinaloa have always been nationwide leaders in social responsibility matters. The Veggies From Mexico Community members become certified with the most demanding standards from markets, and are being audited weekly by a team of technicians ensuring continuous improvement.
