Interview: Marte Vega Román – CAADES President

In this interview for Veggies from Mexico, Mr. Marte Vega Román tells us about the next edition of Expo Agro Sinaloa 2024 to be held on February 21, 22, and 23 in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
1. Could you share with us a little about your career and how it has been for you to be President of CAADES?
As the grandson of farmers and son of a farmer, since I can remember my life has always been linked to farm work, and since 1984 when I graduated as an agronomist engineer, I have not stopped planting for a single year, as they say, I have never stopped learning lessons from the noble and sometimes complex work of producing food.
Since I was very young, I have had to participate in and sometimes lead different organizations and agencies, always linked to the agricultural sector, to become president of CAADES is a great pride and personal satisfaction to be at the head of a great organization is synonymous with work, CAADES is Sinaloa and Sinaloa is food production.
2. Could you tell us about the next edition of Expo Agro Sinaloa?
On this occasion, Expo Agro Sinaloa will have three main areas of action, the first will be training events and lectures on current topics of interest to the farmer, with demonstrative plots of vegetables and grains with samples of technological innovations and exhibition of agricultural machinery.

The second aspect has to do with the installation of an Agribusiness Center where it will be possible to explore the purchase and sale of agricultural inputs, services, and products.
Finally, the third aspect is the installation of two pavilions, one for the exhibition of technologies, inputs, and services and the second for small and medium-sized agribusinesses.
3. What is the most important objective? What is the target audience?
This event is mainly aimed at growers, and its objective is, firstly, for growers to learn about technological innovations in the market and, secondly, to train growers through technology transfer on current issues, such as markets, climate change, and improving competitiveness.
4. How many attendees do you expect in this next edition?
For us, it is more important than the number of attendees that the greatest number of growers, technicians, members of the academic sector, and all those who are related to our activity, including students from institutions related to agriculture, attend.
5. In your experience, what have been the main business opportunities for attendees?
According to figures from the Ministry of Economy, in the last edition of Expo Agro Sinaloa, 565 business meetings were held with national and international buyers from 12 different countries, including the possibility of exporting fresh or processed products to different countries.

.
6. How important do you think it is for growers to belong to agricultural associations such as CAADES and how important are events such as Expo Agro?
Most of the farmers who practice commercial agriculture of grains and vegetables are grouped in the 11 farmers’ associations throughout the state, which are affiliated to CAADES, and they are the ones who in one way or another receive services, information for decision making and negotiations with the government and various agencies to address their concerns and approaches.
The importance of events such as Expo Agro Sinaloa is to provide them with national and international technological innovations that contribute to improve productivity as well as the opportunity to prospect agribusiness.
7. Anything else you would like to comment on?
We invite you to attend the 32nd edition of Expo Agro Sinaloa on February 21, 22 and 23, which will be held at the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer in the Aguaruto syndicate in Culiacan, an event that is the heritage of all people in Sinaloa.
