Monthly Column: We saw you in Guanajuato, we’ll see you in Sinaloa

By Georgius Gotsis, Veggies from Mexico CEO
One of the most significant Farm Exhibitions in Mexico, and unquestionably, the largest; is Expo Agroalimentaria Guanajuato, which has been developed for almost 30 years in the city of Irapuato, Guanajuato. An Exhibition developed by Patronato para el Desarrollo Agropecuario de Guanajuato A.C. made up by a Foundation Board, which are businesspeople in the agri-food field, including farmers, suppliers, marketers, researchers, and academics. With the motto “DEL SURCO AL PLATO” (“FROM THE ROW TO YOUR DISH”), the Exhibition has become a significant meeting point for growers and suppliers across Mexico and the world. It has an attendance of over 126,000 people and visits from 52 countries.
The last issue of this event was held just two days ago on November 12-15, and we were there. An amazing organization. Since you get your tickets online, to a swift sign-up process and a spacious and ordered parking area. In a total surface of 62 hectares (153.2 acres), the Exhibition has a variety of areas where over 650 exhibitors display their products in an Agri-Center, machinery zone, greenhouses, open field crop lots, restaurant area, international hall, and others. It was very satisfying to listen to conversations in English, French, Hindi, and even Chinese while we made a tour around the booths. Large supply multi-national were there, but also small entrepreneurs with an innovative product, looking to break into the Farm world.

Of course, Sinaloa, with its growers and suppliers, was there. Sinaloa, for its centennial expertise in the farming sector, has been a major tech and growth exporter to other states of Mexico. On behalf of CAADES, the state was well represented by its chairman, Eng. Marte Vega Román.
Also, a unique experience occurred at a lunch held by Rijk Zwaan de México where, within a greenhouse; surrounded by colored pepper plants, we ate perfect cucumbers and fully red tomatoes on the vine, surrounded by colored pepper plants, where it was hard to resist eating one. All of this was happening, while the company was assisting clients and visitors.

We took this event as an opportunity to invite exhibitors and visitors to join us in Sinaloa at the Expo Agro Sinaloa 2025, which will be held at Fundación Produce Sinaloa on February 12-14. Many of them already had their booths reserved, and others were in the sign-up process. For those who had not been a part of this event, let us tell you a little bit about Sinaloa: Over 1 million hectares (2.471 million acres) of cultivation land; 70,000 hectares (172,973.77 acres) of vegetables and 10,000 hectares (24,710.54 acres) of protected farming; 1,200 million USD in vegetable exports; a national leader in corn production; the main grower and exporter of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers in Mexico.
Other than its unique gastronomy and the hospitality of its people, it did not take us much time to convince these new exhibitors to come. And then we waved goodbye and said: I’ll see you in Sinaloa.
