World Breast Cancer Awareness Day is commemorated on the farms of our Veggies From Mexico community
Culiacan, Sinaloa – World Breast Cancer Day, celebrated on October 19, is dedicated to promoting awareness of this disease that affects millions of women worldwide. Established to emphasize the importance of early detection, education, and support for those facing a breast cancer diagnosis, this day mobilizes organizations, communities, and individuals to share information and resources. It is also a time to honor those who have battled the disease and to encourage solidarity and hope in the search for more effective treatments and a faster cure. Through awareness and activism, World Breast Cancer Day seeks to empower people to make proactive choices for their health and well-being.
The agricultural sector, particularly the companies that are part of the Veggies From Mexico community, conduct annual campaigns, training sessions, and workshops in October. Some of these companies also provide their employees with mammography screenings to prevent and detect this disease. Here are some of the activities that these companies carried out:
.
Grupo Chaparral
As it does every year, Grupo Chaparral (Agricola Chaparral and Agroindustrias Tombell) organized face-to-face and virtual talks focused on the prevention and diagnosis of breast cancer, bringing this important message to all its operations: La Paloma, Esmeralda, Empaque Tombell, and El Diez. This activity aims to sensitize and empower its migrant and administrative employees through valuable information and awareness about self-examination and early detection.

To complement this, educational posters were displayed around the work camps, promoting a supportive and educational environment. Grupo Chaparral’s social work and medical team played a key role, distributing brochures explaining the warning signs and the importance of early detection. Additionally, each employee received a pink ribbon, a universal symbol representing a call to action and solidarity in the fight against this disease.

Agricola Belher
Agricola Belher carried out a series of activities at the Community Development Centers “Dorita” and “Lo De Beltran” to emphasize the importance of health care, particularly regarding the early detection of breast cancer. Within this framework, Social Security Mexican Institute workers gave a talk on how to perform self-examinations and detect symptoms, using a breast-shaped model to help collaborators understand the process properly. Moreover, a volunteer mother performed the self-examination exercise in front of the group, creating an atmosphere of empathy.
Additionally, the Asociacion Pro Formacion y Orientacion de la Mujer (AFOMAC), an allied organization of Agricola Belher, contributed by giving each employee a chocolate with a commemorative World Breast Cancer Day label and the Agricola Belher logo, as well as orange-flavored water.
To encourage active participation from women, especially migrant workers, a board was set up where each could dab a finger in pink paint and leave their mark. In a symbolic gesture, two large pink bows were created, one with balloons and the other with fabric, representing the fight against this disease. Small bows were also given to female employees.
A mural illustrating the steps of self-examination was displayed, accompanied by informative posters and phrases relevant to the day. This awareness and education event was made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and collaboration of the social work and medical team at both Community Development Centers, demonstrating Agricola Belher’s commitment to the health and well-being of its community.

Agricola El Nazario
Agricola El Nazario organized a talk for its migrant and administrative employees, given by the Health Center of Pericos, Sinaloa, on the prevention of breast cancer, a topic of vital importance for women’s health. During the talk, valuable information was shared about the signs and symptoms of this disease, helping employees become familiar with the aspects to consider. A breast bra-shaped model was used as a tool to demonstrate the self-examination process, making learning more interactive.
With these actions, Agricola El Nazario aims to reinforce the well-being of its female employees by taking care of their health and contributing to the early detection of this disease.

Del Campo y Asociados
At Del Campo y Asociados, the commitment to health and awareness of self-examination was evident through various activities organized by the Human Resources and Social Work departments. To promote breast cancer prevention, a mural activity was conducted, inviting personnel to paint their hands. Under the meaningful slogan “Prevention is in your hands,” this activity engaged administrative staff, highlighting the importance of self-examination.
The Agricultural Social Work department organized an informative talk for women day laborers and mothers in the Batan field, in collaboration with the Health Center. During this talk, informative pamphlets and chocolate medals with the encouraging phrase “Touch yourself so that it doesn’t affect you” were distributed. Additionally, some groceries were provided as community support.

A special moment during the activity was the creation of a leafless tree decorated with the women’s pink painted hands, symbolizing the importance of self-exploration. A mirror was also placed with the quote “Let’s not let ourselves pass self-exploration,” allowing the women to see themselves with their painted hand, reminding them of the fundamental role they play in their own health.
To conclude the event, a group photo was taken with all the collaborators, accompanied by a large bow made of pink balloons. Some of these activities were replicated in their operations in La Cruz de Elota and Jalisco, reinforcing the message of prevention and early detection throughout the community.
