Companies have the responsibility to provide their employees with tools to carry out their assigned activities in the best way possible without putting their health and physical integrity at risk.

The grower companies of the Veggies from Mexico (VFM) community stand out for having Health and Safety Programs based on risk analysis of the company’s activities and facilities and in compliance with applicable regulations.

These measures vary according to the risk analysis, for example, the identification and signaling of existing risks in the work areas or the nature of the activities, the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), and personnel training and awareness, among others.

As part of the preventive measures, the companies inform their personnel of the risks to which working mothers (pregnant and nursing mothers) are exposed so that, if a woman is pregnant or nursing during the season, she is informed so that appropriate actions can be taken to avoid putting her health and that of the product at risk.  The company is responsible for reassigning workers to areas or activities that do not imply hazards.

It is also reported that these workers are entitled to take two half-hour breaks during the workday or, by agreement with the company, to arrive or leave an hour earlier so that they can breastfeed their babies.

Some companies of the Veggies From Mexico community have made available to mothers a lactation area, a space that has the necessary conditions for the mother to breastfeed her baby, comfortably, safely, and with privacy.

As part of compliance with the Eleven Rivers Growers program, members of the VFM community must generate evidence of compliance with these practices.
