The 9th edition of the Viva Fresh Expo, organized by the Texas International Produce Association, was successfully held from April 11 to 13 in Houston, Texas. Over three days, more than 2,600 visitors participated, resulting in successful business interactions among fruit and vegetable growers, buyers, supermarkets, and suppliers.

Notably, the port of entry through Pharr, Texas has become a key export point for vegetables from Sinaloa, underscoring the significance of our presence at this Expo.

Representing the Veggies from Mexico community were its director, Georgius Gotsis, and advisor and treasurer, Francisco Campaña from Agrícola Campaña.

Several noteworthy talks and training sessions took place during the event:

  • A workshop on grading lemons.
  • The presentation of “Women in Produce”.
  • An excellent talk by nutritionist and author Max Lugavere.

Max emphasized the importance of consuming kale, avocado, and olive oil. Additionally, discussions covered the situation regarding tomato dumping demand and the status of the suspension agreement with Mexican growers. Numerous questions about prospects were addressed.

A pivotal event was the Y-TIPA Reception, held on the second night. Attendees enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, exchanging ideas and conducting business.

The Expo-show on the third morning was a highlight. It was delightful to greet growers from the VFM community, including GR Fresh, Tricar, SL Produce, and Marengo. The event facilitated networking and discussions, allowing growers to prepare for the 2024-2025 season in marketing and commercialization matters.
