On July 21-23, our CEO, Georgius Gotsis, took part in a high-level experience in Cartagena, Colombia, organized by Bayer. As a special guest, Georgius participated in the “Competitiveness in the Latin American Farming Sector” panel, accompanied by industry leaders such as Leonardo Tarriba, executive from Farmers Best, and Rubén Ramírez, IFPA (International Fresh Produce Association) Manager in Mexico.

The forum, held at the Hyatt Regency Cartagena, brought together experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities the farming sector is facing in Latin America. Among the subjects discussed, these were highlighted: food safety, implementation of blockchain technology in product traceability, and the main international market trends, especially in fruits and produce. Realistic and profitable strategies for successful regenerative agriculture were also shared. And of course, Bayer shared the technology and inputs it offers farmers to improve their profitability in a sustainable manner. The discussion was the perfect setting to share experiences, explore collaborative solutions, and visualize the innovations transforming the farming sector.

As part of the program, over 100 attendees from Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador took a tour around Bayer facilities in Barranquilla, one of the most important industrial centers for the company in Latin America. This facility produces over thirty thousand tons of agricultural inputs annually, which are exported to 23 countries. During the tour, guests were able to get a close look at sustainability initiatives of Bayer, as well as the processes that ensure product quality and safety.

Other than the technical approach, the event offered opportunities for interaction, reflection, and networking among leaders of the agri-food sector. Georgius emphasized the significance of building bridges of collaboration between companies, institutions, and growers in order to reinforce resilience, competitiveness, and sustainability of farming in North America.
