Eleven Rivers Growers/Veggies From Mexico takes part in the Interstate Meeting on Labor Rights

Last July 8-9, Veggies From Mexico took part in the Interstate Meeting on Labor Rights held in the city of Mazatlan, Sinaloa. This event was attended by public and private sector institutions, social organizations, and government agencies, including representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) from Sinaloa, Puebla, Veracruz, and Chihuahua, Mexico; the UN High Commissioner; representatives from the National System for Comprehensive Protection of Children and Teenagers (SIPINNA) from Veracruz, Sinaloa, Puebla, and Oaxaca; other representatives from Sinaloa and Jalisco in the farming industry; as well as other organizations such as AHIFORES and Stronger Together. It should be noted that event was organized by World Vision Mexico, an organization that supports children and teenagers in vulnerable situation in Mexico.
Relevant topics related to labor rights of workers were discussed. Experts and participants shared their experiences and knowledge on labor inspections, and key tools for protecting human rights in the business sector. A workshop was also held on developing proposals to improve institutional cooperation, focused on labor and respecting labor rights of workers.

Within this workshop, Veggies From Mexico took part in the proposal to establish inter-institutional communication with all the government agencies which attended the meeting, to learn about the work of each of the agencies, and to work together in the future.
Events like these, where everyone shares their success stories and tools to support and prevent teen labor, as well as their labor rights, help us collectively pave the institutional way we must follow.
While the Veggies From Mexico community brings together farming companies committed to their employees and their families, they constantly seek to maintain and improve their programs and social services, such as daycare facilities and basic education for children and teenagers, as well as support for those who were unable to complete their elementary school studies.

Veggies From Mexico supports companies in reinforcing the best practices in labor rights through internal audit visits, advisory, and staff training. This, with the purpose of creating better living conditions for workers, by identifying risk factors, and taking timely action from the companies.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to World Vision Mexico for the invitation and organization of this event, and for its commitment in promoting and protecting the rights of workers, children, and teenagers.
