Every year, the companies which are part of the Veggies From Mexico farming community joined together for a common cause: promoting the prevention and early detection of breast cancer among their employees. Through information campaigns and activities to raise awareness, in cooperation with institutions such as the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), they are looking forward to raising awareness to their staff about the importance of breast self-examination, clinical examinations, and mammograms.

In our farming community, several activities were developed:

Every year, the company develops information talks lectured by its medical team and staff from other institutions, focusing on prevention and early detection of this disease among its employees.

In cooperation with ProFamilia de Jornaleros at the Culiacan River Farmers Association (AARC), appointments for mammograms are being arranged at UNEME DEDICAM (Medical Specialty Unit for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis) of the Ministry of Health. If an abnormality is detected, the relevant medical monitoring is provided, whereas the company is responsible for providing transportation to the unit.

Various activities were developed, including the creation of posters, wall newspapers, group activities, Zumba sessions, self-examination exercises, brochure and leaflet distribution, as well as talks for raising awareness, prevention, and inspirational testimonials.

In Culiacan and San Luis Potosi, Health Center staff participated, whereas in La Cruz and Jalisco, the medical team of the company led the training sessions.

The purpose of these actions was to provide useful information for breast cancer prevention, in addition to promoting mammograms for early detection and treatment.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) emphasizes that early detection of breast cancer can significantly improve survival rates. For example, between 75 and 80% of detections are benign, which highlights the effectiveness of screening programs in early identification of potential cases.
