Veggies From Mexico Technical staff participates in the Virtual Workshop to develop the Diagnosis of T-MEC Labor Rights for the Farming Sector

On Feb 2-11, the virtual workshop on the development of the Diagnosis of the T-MEC Labor Rights applied to the Farming Sector was held, organized by Alianza Hortofrutícola Internacional para el Fomento de la Responsabilidad Social, A.C. (AHIFORES), where our technical team attended in order to continue training and be updated in the subject of social responsibility for the farming sector.

The purpose of this workshop was that participants were able to identify the indicators on Version 1.0 of the DEAR T-MEC Standard, and that, accompanied by AHIFORES advisors, they could develop the diagnosis by using the online platform DEAR T-MEC Information System (SIDEAR T-MEC), in order to be in a position to identify their compliance level with the labor rights contained in Labor Chapter 23 of the T-MEC; this will allow them to implement actions and reduce the risk of difficulties while exporting fruits, vegetables and grains into the US and Canada.

Also, this workshop addressed subjects such as freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective negotiation; elimination of all forms of forced or mandatory labor; effective abolition of child labor; elimination of discrimination in terms of employment and occupation; and preserving acceptable labor conditions with regards to minimum wages, working hours, and safety and health at the workplace.

This workshop was attended by managers of Human Resources, social responsibility workers, personnel managing union-related affairs, payroll, people hiring field workers, managers of safety and health in the workplace, supervisors of personnel handling manual loads in harvest and packaging, and/or the person in charge of handling agrochemicals.

Alianza Hortofrutícola Internacional para el Fomento de la Responsabilidad Social (AHIFORES), is a non-profit civil association from the private sector that is actively involved in planting, harvesting, packaging, distribution and marketing of fresh food proudly grown in Mexico, and their main purpose is consolidating efforts and generating actions leading to solution alternatives in labor and social matters from the farming sector in Mexico.
