Promotora Agroindustrial y Comercial del Tamazula, a member of our Veggies From Mexico Community, started during September their Annual Safe Hiring Program for Farm Workers in the State of Veracruz, and during October and November in the states of Chiapas and Guerrero. For the last seven years, María Guadalupe Hernández Núñez, the Social Responsibility Coordinator of the company, has been visiting these states to conduct the transportation and safe hiring of Farm Workers that will be working at the company, most of which return year after year.
The reason why the company develops this program is in order to inform workers about the company regulations and policies for safe hiring, some of which are as follows:
The company provides workers with transportation service and proper safe traveling conditions, for which they are explained the biosafety protocol before the trip; by satisfying the current hygiene needs due to COVID-19. Besides, the Social Responsibility Coordinator performs a follow-up called “safe transportation logbook”, which records all the times when stops are made so that workers can eat, get hydrated or use the restroom.
The company, in order to provide workers and their families the best quality of life, provides decent housing with stove, gas cylinder, mats, cots and blankets upon their arrival to work at the company. The company also provides their workers a water heating service through solar heaters installed in the housing facilities.
For the children accompanying farm workers, the company has a daycare facility, providing education services and seeking for supports to motivate the families during their stay.
