Know more about Veggies From Mexico: Mobbing and Harassment

The Eleven Rivers/Veggies from Mexico community is composed by a group of farmers from Sinaloa, who are looking to set themselves apart from other areas, by implementing food safety and social responsibility programs.

Also, these companies are obtaining internal audit services weekly, where, our auditing technical staff performs reviews of the different company areas, such as production units, packaging and housing facilities, as the case may be, evaluating food safety and/or social responsibility criteria, based on the certifications the farming companies have. This way, these companies ensure their compliance and continuous improvement, by supplying the market with very high-quality products, hazard-free for their consumers and without affecting health, security and integrity of workers and their families.

Speaking a bit about these companies, their programs include activities which are always looking for the wellbeing of their workers and avoiding acts of bullying and harassment, being in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Labor Law, Article 133 Section 12, which states that performing acts of sexual molestation and harassment against any person in the workplace is forbidden.

We define Mobbing as an aggressive and unwanted behavior between people regardless of age, gender, religion, level of hierarchy, etc., every action or behavior that involves generating a discomfort or inconvenience in the other. The behavior repeats itself or tends to be repeated over time.

Among the types of bullying, we can indicate the following;

  • School harassment or bullying. One of the most known types of harassment and the most occurring in the last few years.
  • Harassment in the workplace or mobbing.
  • Psychological harassment.
  • Sexual harassment.
  • Physical harassment or stalking.
  • Cyberbullying or cyberstalking. One of the most recent types
  • Real estate mobbing.

On one hand, we define harassment as a broad range of offensive behaviors, a conduct intended to disturb, threaten or disrupt the other person. We can relate it to power, a superiority complex, hierarchy, etc., it is also characterized for being a repetitive act.

This behavior is also characterized for being repetitive and we may be seen reflected on:

Excessive work load, or leaving the person “frozen”, do nothing about it, not giving the person any activities to perform, not developing or improving this person’s capacities, asking favors against the dignity of the person, as well as conditioning activities, payment increases, etc.

The main cause for these situations to occur in any workplace is the tolerance from labor institutions, not knowing how to act before this situation, the fear to what people will say, prejudices, the lack of a legal complaint from the affected party. This is why it is important to establish means of communication and complaints in workplaces, training company staff, indicate the people responsible for faults, etc.

For more information, you may consult the NOM-035-STPS-2018, Psycho-social Risk Factor At Work – Identification, Analysis and Prevention. This regulation is issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare which purpose is to establish the elements to identify, analyze and prevent psycho-social risk factors, workplace violence, as well as promoting a favorable organizational environment at workplaces.

Let us remember that a good working environment at the workplace contributed to the optimum development of company activities; it also partially improves life quality of the staff.
